Student’s future: Engineering Entrepreneurship & Placements in Colleges

                                                                  Written By- Shaily Rai

Delhi NCR-based NAAC accredited college; ITS Engineering is now open to admission for engineering and management programs 2021. With the CBSE 12th class Board and JEE Mains results being announced recently, candidates are now liable to apply at the prestigious institute of ITS Engineering College online.

Generally, there are two career paths that a student decides to pursue after completing their B. Tech degree—Business & Job. A student will acquire a private job either by college placements or by searching for the desired job themselves. For establishing a business, on the other hand, students mostly go for a management degree first, that is MBA. Not many are aware of this but the college has a special provision for students wishing to start a business early on and for the ones inclining towards entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship and Startup programs in Colleges.

Entrepreneurship is not to be underestimated. Not only are they essential assets for business corporations but they also improve the standard of living, thus stimulating economic growth. We can say this from the Global Innovation Index where India has been ranked 48th amongst the top 50 countries, successfully jumping four places since the last ranking.

Keeping this in mind, the Ministry of Education has introduced ‘innovation cells’ in colleges to encourage new ideas brought forth by the students and materialize them into reality. These innovation cells impart knowledge about entrepreneurship and sharpen student’s technical skills through camps, sessions, and workshops.

In addition, the government has proposed a parameter known as ‘Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements’ (ARIIA) for measuring the contribution of entrepreneurship and innovation in colleges each year. In respect to this, ITS Engineering College has successfully achieved the ranking of Top 6-25 private institutes across India under Band A category. This was announced by the Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Placement in Colleges.

Just as there are special programs devised to promote entrepreneurship, there are special measures to promote placements in colleges too. In order to prepare students for the corporate world, colleges design their curriculum to improve a student’s technical and non-technical skills. There are two forces responsible for brushing a student’s technical skills—the Center of excellence and the faculty of the college. Center of excellence is the organizational platform that provides training, practical exposure, research, and development to students by collaborating with the established industries. This is all done with the motive to prepare students for the corporate world.

Entrepreneurship and Startup programs in ITS Engineering.

Keeping the above-mentioned points in mind, the founders of ITS Engineering College has devised their own strategies to meet the optimum goals for students.

For establishing technology-driven start-ups, the college has NewGen IEDC (New Generation Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centers) and Startup cell that aims towards the establishment and growth of start-ups and companies in their beginning stages. This is possible through customized incubation support services, skill development, and training programs for entrepreneurship, enterprises, and innovation. Furthermore, NewGen IEDC has been funded by The Department of Science & Technology (DST) of over Rs 2.87 Crores to implement their goals. While the startup cell provides adequate manufacturing space, time, and support to materialize potential start-ups.

The college also has entrepreneurship develop cell (EDC) which aims to inspire, train and cultivate the feeling of entrepreneurship, thus helping students in realizing their dreams.

Placement in ITS Engineering College.

ITS Engineering has dedicated itself to placements by holding the position of the best placement college in the Delhi NCR region. A lot goes in during college placements. Simply inviting companies to the college is not sufficient for placements. Developing a student’s soft skills is just as crucial. For implementing this goal, the college has Corporate Research Center (CRC), Personality Development Team (PDP), and Student Placement Committee (SPC).

The CRC team withholds the responsibility of conducting on-campus interviews by tying up with the top-notch companies for all industries. They also incorporate guest lecturers to raise awareness to the students about the latest trends and technologies in the market. As of 2020- 2021, the CRC team has organized over 350+ company visits with more than 400 job offers to their students. Some of the well-renowned companies include Infosys, TCS, NIIT Technologies, Amazon, Wipro, Hashedin-Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, DeltaX, Accenture, Byju’s, ICICI Bank, IDFC First Bank, etc.

The Personality Development Team works behind the scenes by providing Aptitude & Reasoning sessions as well as assessment tests. Their soft skills training include communication skills practices, group discussions, and verbal pronunciation amongst others to prepare students for the corporal interviews.

ITS Engineering College owns nine state-of-the-art Centers of Excellence (COE) that are built with the intention to bridge the gap between education and career, in an attempt to produce employable ready students. They provide hands-on experience with the latest technology, relevant to the industry. These nine esteemed labs are Apple iOS, Rockwell Automation, SMC Pneumatics, R Systems COE, Syscom innovation, e- Yantra, National instruments, Software testing lab, BMW CoE.

How Entrepreneurship Projects are Gaining pace in Education Industry

Education plays a very important role in everyone's life. Good education means that it is never a certification and getting a job in a reputed and recognized organization or institution, although it also means having a good and social person in life. Technological innovations are having a significant impact on educational systems at all levels. Online courses, teaching aids, educational software, social networking tools, and other emerging technologies are disrupting the traditional classroom environment. As the technological based solutions are used in education sector widely so it open new opportunities for students to learn and grow.

With good technological inputs we get tremendous ideas. So here at this level, education industry has introduced a concept of Entrepreneurship Development. Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) in educational institutions is formed to develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in academics and to foster technology based entrepreneurship for generation of wealth and employment for students.
To harness brilliant ideas of students and to promote self-hosted successful business projects, Colleges like ITS Engineering College, Amity, Galgotias etc. are spending tons of money on Research as well as Seed Funding, Entrepreneurship Development and Project based and Technology based learning. Even the Indian government has also formed separate ministries for Entrepreneurship skills enhancements like Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and New Generation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (NewGen IEDC)  to cater innovative and impactful ideas and help students to move ahead in their career and achieve their dreams. If the student has aimpactful idea that meets the threshold set forth by this bunch, then Seed funding is a no strings attached grant under MSME guidelines. Only few selected colleges in North India are under this scheme.

Highly motivated young graduates and post graduates, who want to start companies while still in their colleges, have such an increasing number of resources to tap into that exist just for them. Students that want to learn how to build companies, can apply to an increasing number of fast-track programs that allow them to gain valuable early stage operating experience.

Investing in technology for universities in India may conjure up images of laptops and tablets being delivered to masses, but the greatest ROI in higher education technology comes from software rather than hardware. So to cater this side of technical education, colleges have technology based Industry Oriented Labs, also known as Centre of Excellence, to support students for technical aspects which they will need to introduce fresh ideas. Some of the top companies who have setup such labs are Apple iOS, R Systems, Syscom, ITB &SALT, National Instrumentation etc.Entrepreneurship Development can assist students in the early stage development of your business start-up or social enterprise, invest in market research, or to develop a prototype.

So in Nutshell the objective of Entrepreneurship Development Cells in Colleges is to develop spirit of Entrepreneurship among the Students, Creating Awareness Programmes, Mentoring Students, Assisting in getting financial support for Start-ups.
