Elevator Pitch

An elevator pitch is a crisp, short and persuasive speech to arouse interest in what you or your organization does. It is called as an elevator pitch because it is small enough to be presented during an elevator ride. Elevator pitch can be used in a sales pitch, in a self-introduction, raising a toast to someone etc. Let’s try to understand the elevator pitch with an example. Suppose you are trying to take an appointment with a senior guy working in your dream company since a very long time but unfortunately you are not able to make it till now.  One fine evening you find him in a coffee shop. He is waiting for someone and you have few minutes to pitch yourself. There can be two possible outcomes in this situation. First is you will keep thinking that whether to approach him or not, what to say to him etc. etc., and then you realize that time has gone. The second option is to walk to that person and pitch your idea in the most interesting manner.  This might result in getting an appointment for you and opening the way to success.
You should keep certain points in mind before creating an elevator pitch as mentioned below
1) Be passionate about what you say or do. Unless and until you are not excited by what you say, you can’t get your audience excited.
2) Show your unique selling proposition. Make sure to mention that how are you different from others.
3) Make it interesting. Do not bore the listeners.
For example if you are working as a data analyst then instead of saying your designation plainly you can say that I help people and organizations in taking better decisions  by analyzing past behavior.
If you are a teacher then instead of saying this you can say that I nurture the mind of the kids so they can become more open in receiving different experiences in life and become good learner in life.
If you are a human resource executive then you can say that I help my organization in identifying and retaining the right talent.

Applied Science and Humanities Department Celebrates International Girl Child Day

"We need to uphold the equal rights, voices and influence of girls in our families, communities and nations. Girls can be powerful agents of change, and nothing should keep them from participating fully in all areas of life." — UN Secretary-General António Guterres

The above statement stands true when it comes to the significance of girls and women in our life, society and country.  If we look around, we would find that gender discrimination across the globe has been one of the most sought after issues of debate and deliberation. Women empowerment is what has come to the fore to put a stop to such gender biasness and make our women folk an important constituent of the society. Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl Child to highlight and address the needs and challenges that girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

In resonance with this theme, the Department of Applied Science and Humanities celebrated its first International Day of the Girl Child in the campus on October 11th to educate male students on issues of gender disparity and subsequently to raise awareness about women empowerment.

The event was graced by Prof (Dr.) Vikas Singh - Executive Director of I.T.S Engineering College; Dr. Gagan Deep Arora - Dean Academics & Administration; Dr. Sanjay Yadav - Dean Students’ Welfare and Prof. O.P. Chaudhary - Head of Applied Science and Humanities Department along with the faculty members.

Students from B. Tech 1st year came up with a series of events and performances to celebrate achievements of girls and women in our society. There were poetry recitations, songs, dramatizations, speeches and dances. However, the most notable thing to observe was the skit developed by 1st year all male students on the theme of women harassment and exploitation. The idea behind this dramatization was to highlight the plight that women and girls face on regular basis despite belonging to a civilized society. While there were poems and speeches dedicated to the achievements of the fairer sex, audience could also relate to the passion with which these were enacted on stage.

ITS Engineering College, being a technical institution, celebrated this event for instigating various logical thought processes and sensitizing every male towards their female counterparts.

Like any other important day, the International Day of the Girl Child too has been a very significant occasion. International Day of the Girl Child is on October 11 and organizations around the world will be calling for action around this year's theme of Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence.

CAMPUS HIRING, REDEFINED!

Campus recruitment practices and processes have been mostly stagnant for many years. But now the economy has changed and the competition is high. In terms of campus recruitment, many other crucial factors have been changing for such fresh graduating talents and also how recruiters look while hiring. They have a different set of requirements and plans. It is the time for colleges to be up to the task.

University placement leaders are now modernising their existing recruiting methods. In order to guarantee that we successfully hire the most-in-demand fresh graduates, we must add a couple of brand new bold best practices.

It is estimated that 80% of the interview is made up of behavioural questions. This type of interviewing is based on the philosophy that a detailed analysis of the way one act in certain circumstances will give reliable indication of the way he/she will act in the new job.

Behavioural question will be experience-based and you need a lot of practice to be able to answer them in a satisfactory manner.
STAR Technique
To answer Behavioural Questions, employ the STAR technique –

· S = Situation − (recall an incident in your life that suits the situation)
· T = Task − (recall an incident in your life that suits the task)
· A = Action − (mention the course of action you opted to address the situation or task)
· R = Result − (mention the result of your action and the outcome)
We also observe, introduction of psychometric test to analyse Emotional Quotient along with Intelligent Quotient. This has become an important metrics for organisation across the world.

What is Aptitude?
Aptitude refers to an individual's ability to learn or perform certain skills. Aptitude tests are administered by employers to screen candidates for employment. It is a test designed to measure a person's potential ability to perform an activity of a specialized kind. Aptitude tests refer to standardized tests designed to measure an individual's ability to develop certain skills. Studies have applied tests of psychomotor ability, cognitive knowledge, and personality and attempted to relate them to measures of surgical skill.

Why is Aptitude Required?
Companies nowadays provide adequate work-related training to their employees themselves, but they require the recruit to be competent and able enough to imbibe that training quickly and effectively. This is why aptitude skills have become an integral part of all recruitment processes.

Objective of Aptitude Training
The sole objective of imparting aptitude training is to make students able to critically evaluate various real-life situations by resorting to an analysis of key issues and factors. They should be smart enough to read between the lines and understand various language structures. It helps them to demonstrate various principles involved in solving mathematical problems and thereby reducing the time taken for performing job functions.

How to Prepare for Aptitude Test?
Before hiring students for placements a number of companies convey written tests in order to ascertain the intelligence level of applicants. The main aim of conveying these tests by companies is to discard those candidates who do not match the terms and conditions of the company. Given the vast population of students especially engineering students in our country, the number of aspirants is generally far greater than the number of openings in various companies and this problem lead the companies to use these tests as a method of eliminating students.
Companies that hire students through campus placements have various rounds to shortlist exemplary candidates. These rounds hold aptitude tests, group discussions and then the last one is a personal interview.
There are approx 90% of the candidates who apply for the exam but fail to qualify it. The aptitude test is conducted to test the candidate on Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, and Analytical Ability/Logical Reasoning.
